Last May 18, 2019, In celebration of World Interiors Day, the Philippine Institute of Interior Designers - Cebu Chapter's General Members Meeting was graced by IDR. Charisse Gail Punzalan, discussing this years' theme "Designing spaces, Changing lives".

Unlike any other speakers, we have encountered, IDR. Charisse became my instant favorite speaker. She shared her insights and experiences with all the members present during the talk and it was amazing that she shared such experiences with us when most are even reluctant to share and which I admire about her. She shared was based on her personal experience that everyone can relate to and how she does her own process despite having been said she holds one of the highest positions of Trends and Concept.

She shared that as a designer she focused on Workspace Interior Design which is one of the reasons why I attended in the first place, that night I asked around 5 questions that gave me a full insight on how things can improve on my processes and how should I create a path that I might go too. However, it gave me an insight that answers my questions in my possible topic for my Master which is related to Co-working spaces in an Office Landscape.

Before the night ends, everyone was happy to be there it was an insightful and personal career talk we had that everyone in the room has talked about how wonderful the talk has been and this kind of talk that Idr. Punzalan has shown to us should be repeated in every General Meeting Assembly.

Before and After: The Black and White Modern Abode

7/19/2019

In my previous blog, I have shared that we worked for around 5 months for the design, technically the approved design was done for less than a month but due to some personal concerns and all the factors that the client has we had to prolong it due to the previous experience he had with another person before me, my predecessor, which explains why it took us longer to block the schedule on both sides.

90% from the existing unit was demolished and implement the design I have created for this unit, rather than having this retained which I would definitely not agree with as it will give me more headache than it should be and good thing that the client has the same thought as well and for not wanting any trace of the previous design to be retained which is fair on my part. During the construction, we have to work around 60 working days to have this implemented which includes some setbacks. Gladly our team was able to get the result the client wanted.

100% in this unit was custom built and made to order, everything was stripped off and we created a new look but similar set-up since its a studio unit which is about 30sqm. The floor plank laminate is from Pergo and at that time we have to wait for around 3-5 weeks for it to arrive from Belgium as they ran out of stocks in Cebu and Manila and had no regrets for it was definitely worth the wait.

The Kitchen and Wardrobe were the first and second batch to be assembled on-site, and all are made of High Gloss Material Board, ad preferred by the client to have a shiny look of the cabinetries as for me, I prefer to have this in white to make the area wider and the lights to reflect from its boards and at night it will be brighter. We had an extended kitchen, aligning it to the wardrobe area, making it more seamless and looking better and the waterfalls synthetic granite in black makes a statement.

The Kitchen Pantry is fully utilized by using kitchen organizers from Hafele behind those High Gloss white is consistent in this area as well as going towards the dining table/media area. Since the working area is aligned to the main kitchen both have black synthetic granite in waterfalls.

To utilize further space and the fact that we need a dining area for the family of three, a writing desk and minimal storage for its knick-knacks. We are left to have a floating table made of synthetic granite in white to have a unified look uniting four materials as seen in this area, the high-gloss board, the concrete white gloss paint finish, and the white synthetic table and white baseboard.  Did I say, we made sure to hide all cables that can still be functional? All those wires are now behind the TV.

I'm glad that despite the client being happy with our results and also able to be on time and meet his requirements, We did this for 60 days, everyone did their best to be on time and working hand-in-hand together. I look forward that this serves as an inspiration for unit owners to hire a licensed interior designer.

Transform your Condominium Unit in 60 days

7/12/2019

After 7 months for online communication, we have actually locked-in on what the client wants base on the overall factors he had considered and everything in between and this project to implement the design was done for a very limited time of 2 months to construct. The color scheme of this project was supposed to be red, white and black and on the last minute upon seeing this look we have to take out the red accent materials using a graphic kote from Kima Glass.  Hence, the project turned out well wherein the crucial time was on the project management to meet the deadline and possible extensions.

The concept of this project was Modern, with all the clean lines and neutral color to be used it's definitely modern. This studio unit is a 30 sqm area with limited space to cover all the requirements the client wanted. A huge kitchen with lots of storage and multi-functional space that should all go together with their requirements such as the dining area, writing desk, a media wall and wardrobe, and storage, to put this all together was a bit easier when things base on cost were considered after designing.

The look upon entering this almost all-white studio unit. We added laminated floors from Design Source Inc. placed on top of the floor, which material was from Brazil. The extended main kitchen and the stretched out kitchen pantry seen on the other side was definitely their top priority. The kitchen appliances and kitchen storage came from Hafele which we both enjoyed when sourcing things to make their space functional and modern.

This is the kitchen pantry aligned to the main kitchen using a synthetic solid surface, which is my recommended material. The media area also served as a dining area and a writing desk as it also uses a synthetic countertop to match its high-gloss melamine boards and pure white paints from Boysen.

The mirror was already here when we started designing as this was done by this previous contractor, we just retained and work around what we can do. As you have noticed, this has a yellowish color because we used tri-color lights and 2 cove lights both in warm white and daylight, giving him options on what they like best. The styling wasn't done as requested by the client since their items will be brought the following day. Speaking of a crucial turnover.

Here is the look in front of the mirror with me, taking photos before I leave. On the right side is the sliding wardrobe, located behind the kitchen. This is connected to each other including on its beams.  Speaking of Smart Home, we only applied what was practical, no Alexa just remote and switches that eases everything and a mechanism that organizes your stuff.

The family of 3 arrived the following day bringing all their belongings from their apartment and in no time as per my visit late in the afternoon,  every door cabinet was filled with their things and a little left for new ones. We were able to pull that off in 60 days, the floors, the cabinetry works, and general construction work. It was so little time with a big scope of work. It was a bit stressful as time becomes your competition to keep on track of the schedule despite having setbacks it was all worth it seeing your design becoming a reality.

Oh! Btw, I had fun taking photos on this project since it would be my first time using my Fujifilm Camera for my projects. Speaking of my childhood hobby.
